We have set a big goal for our One Small Step community in 2022: 🌳 We want to plant 100,000 trees and help 100,000 people go emissions free! So we’re planting a tree for every person who signs up to One Small Step!
Our goal is to mobilize 100,000 people to make a difference that’s an order of magnitude greater than their tree counterparts. Each and every one of the 100,000 trees we plant represents a real live person, committed to reducing their emissions. For most people who use One Small Step, their individual actions have the potential impact equivalent of planting over 400 trees each year (an emissions reduction of almost 10 tonnes!).
So, achieving our big goal together will lead to emission reductions of 1 million tonnes of CO2e. That’s roughly the same impact as taking a whopping 200,000 cars off the road for 1 year!

Why now?
⏰ The clock is ticking
We’re on a deadline, we have 8 years to reach ‘drawdown’ - the point in the future where levels of emissions in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to decline. By reaching drawdown before 2030, we’ll prevent catastrophic climate change.
Trees are excellent carbon sequestration tools, and we want to make each & every small step you take as impactful as possible.
But hold up, is that really going to make a difference?
👨👩👧 Behaviour change is essential
Averting the climate crisis is a challenge that requires action from all levels of our society. It’s not going to only take governments and corporations. Similarly, it’s not going to only take communities and individuals. It’s going to take all of us.
Bottom-up, viral behavioural change through local communities is an immensely important part of decarbonising our society in the timeframe needed to prevent runaway global warming.
A Drawdown Solutions analysis reveals that individual and household actions can produce over a quarter of the total emissions reductions needed to avoid dangerous climate change.
That’s a lot higher than most people realise.
It’s because we are each an integral part of a complex system that is reliant on fossil fuels; from the food we buy and the electricity we consume to the way we get around and the buildings we live in.

Importantly, we don’t need to wait to make a real impact by making changes to the way we live and beginning to minimise our reliance on fossil fuels. Starting today, we can each make choices that directly reduce emissions and help to prevent irreversible climate damage.

About our tree planting partner
We’ve partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects to plant a tree per sign up to One Small Step. Trees will be planted in local environments in Madagascar, Mozambique, Kenya, Nepal, Indonesia, Haiti, Central America and Brazil.
Eden’s mission is to work with local communities to restore forests on a massive scale, thereby creating jobs, protecting ecosystems and helping mitigate climate change.
