Gaps and cracks in your home can be a big electricity drain and a real blow to your energy bill.

Air leakage (draughts) can account for up to 25% of heat loss from houses in winter, forcing your home heating system to work harder and your energy usage to climb.

By finding out where draughts are coming from in the home, and learning simple DIY methods to seal them up, like weather stripping and door snakes, you can stop the cold air from getting in and cut down your energy bill while you're at it!

So how can you find draughty spots in your home?

Obvious signs include light leaking through cracks, movement of curtains in front of closed windows, rattling or whistling. Some of the areas that air may sneak in include around windows and doorways, skirting boards, exhaust vents and fireplaces.

Fun tip: To identify smaller air gaps, feel for air around the window or door frame. You can hold a tissue up, feel with your hands, or hold an incense stick and watch the smoke (and have your house smelling delightful while you do it!).
